Latin immersion post-bac now available online

The Institute for Latin Studies’ Graduate Certificate curriculum, in which Latin is the exclusive language of spoken interaction in class sessions and group projects, all assignments are written in Latin, and participants engage in close reading of Latin texts, is now entirely available in three online courses, the first of which (MCL 591) offers an intensive and a quite unique 3 month immersion introduction to communicative Latin. This curriculum has already become well known for offering deep immersion in the spoken use of Latin, a wide variety of exercises in Latin prose composition, and exposure to the entire heritage of literature in Latin, which includes not only seminal texts from antiquity, but also Latin literary masterpieces produced in early-modern and modern times. All these benefits are now accessible in an online, but real-time format.  Meeting sessions are scheduled for late afternoon / early evening, in order to make accommodation, as far as possible, for people’s working schedules.

Deadline for applications aiming at a beginning date of January 2025 is December 13, 2024.

Also now available online are two courses in Latin Prose Composition, which were previously accessible only to students physically situated in the campus of the University of Kentucky. These courses will focus in depth in the techniques of writing prose in Latin – a skill that is also highly beneficial for people interested in speaking correct Latin.
