CANEPress is pleased to announce new texts and music that is available to CANE members. These first
books were done under the auspices of Professor Gilbert Lawall, a stalwart member of CANE and a
brilliant teacher and friend. New entries will be posted over the next several months. In addition, if
there are out of copyright books that you would like us to post, let us know (treasurer@caneweb.org).

Witches and Witchcraft, A Latin Reader is the first offering. Elizabeth Rossi compiled selections from
Vergil’s Eclogue VIII, Horace’s Satire I.VIII, Horace’s Epode V, Vergil’s Aeneid IV, and Apuleius’
Metamorphoses I. Each selection has vocabulary and notes, and can be used as a group or individually
(think next Halloween). There are study questions, too.

The Translation Key could be used in many ways, but one way is, when a passage has been done in class,
to have students use the given translation in the Key, the classroom/their own translation and then
translations from across the centuries, to see how a passage’s translation has changed, and what that
says about the time period when it was done.
