Thalia Pandiri, who taught classics at Smith College for 56 years, died in a fire at her home in Northampton on December 17. She was a former faculty member at the CANE Summer Institute and was active in the CARE program in recent years. She was a wonderful person and an excellent teacher.
Three Weeks in Italy: A Report on the Renata Poggioli Award

There are gifts that bring a restitutive expansiveness to the life of the mind, and the Renata Poggioli Award is one of them. My grant proposal set out two intentions: to visit sites in Italy that had eluded previous itineraries, and to seek places that would nourish my doctoral work in Comparative Literature, where Ovid, Augustine, Dante, and Bonaventure are constant interlocutors.
