John Rouman (1926-2022)

Please see the following message about John Rouman, Professor Emeritus at the University of New Hampshire, who passed away last week at the age of 96. This message is from Mary Papoutsy, Co-Chair of the John C. Rouman Classical Lecture Series Advisory Board:

I’m emailing you in my capacity as the Co-Chair of the John C. Rouman Classical Lecture Series Advisory Board at UNH to pass along the sad news to colleagues and friends of John that he passed away yesterday. His brother and close friends have made final arrangements which I’m conveying to you in case there are colleagues among the CANE membership who might wish to pay their last respects to John.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, August 9, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 93 Locust Street, Dover, NH.  The funeral will follow directly at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at the Annunciation Cemetery in Dover.

My grant proposal set out two intentions: to visit sites in Italy that had eluded previous itineraries, and to seek places that would nourish my doctoral work in Comparative Literature, where Ovid, Augustine, Dante, and Bonaventure are constant interlocutors.
