Call for papers: The Haley Classical Journal

The Haley Classical Journal is opening its call for papers for our Summer 2021 issue!

The Haley is an undergraduate, peer-reviewed Classical Studies research journal affiliated with the Hamilton College Classics Department. Last semester we received a number of excellent articles; ultimately, we published seven great essays from undergraduate students. If you would like to see our latest issue of The Haley, please click here.

We understand that this semester is much more challenging due to the global pandemic. Because of this, we are setting a longer deadline for paper submissions. If you are interested in submitting a paper for this upcoming issue of The Haley, please fill out this submission form by March 12th at 11:59 PM EST. Submissions should be no more than 4000 words and no less than 1000

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our staff at haleyclassical@gmail.com or at hamtheon@hamilton.edu. We have also attached a PDF version of our CFP to make sharing more accessible.

We are looking forward to reading and reviewing your papers!

Sincerely,
The Haley Editorial Board

Middle School Latin Teacher (Immediate Opening), Milton Academy

Milton Academy, a K-12 independent boarding and day school just outside of Boston, seeks immediate leave coverage for an in-person Latin teacher in the Middle School. The position consists of 3 Latin classes (6th, 7th, & 8th grade). We are looking for teachers who are deeply committed to teaching and working with the middle school age group and have a passion for teaching Latin. In addition to outstanding teaching ability, we seek teachers who are inquisitive, self-directed, team-oriented, and dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Classics Department uses a mixture of traditional grammar-translation and active Latin approaches in the Middle School and the curriculum iterates each year on basics but changes textbooks to keep things fresh; the 6th graders have Cambridge, the 7th is in Ecce, and the 8th uses Latin for the New Millenium. Milton Academy has a number of COVID-19 safety protocols in place, including weekly testing of all students and faculty.

Qualified candidates will possess excellent communication and writing skills, and proficiency with technology is assumed. Flexibility, creativity, a sense of humor, a strong work ethic and a commitment to being a strong team member are all critically important. Demonstrated ability working in a diverse community is essential. Teacher certification is not required. Please direct any inquiries to Jesse Sawyer, Classics Department Chair (jesse_sawyer@milton.edu).
