Foreign Language Tools

I’m having a bit of writer’s block, and it is the middle of the summer, so I will leave you with a small list of web resources I have found useful for teaching language. I wrote this up on my (oft neglected) blog for helping teachers in my school with tech issues. It was written in March, but to my knowledge all the websites are still active and useful. There are probably a whole host of new things out there, and I’d encourage you to leave comments below if you know of anything good. If there is something you use regularly, perhaps you wouldn’t mind writing a feature post for Canens!

Hannah Griffioen, a recent UMASS Amherst MAT alumna, reminded us about Collatinus, a great program for creating Latin word lists for texts. All the buttons and things are entirely in Latin. It’s default is translating into French, but you can change that in the preferences. Download for MAC or for WINDOWS.
Like Euro-style board games? Check out this list of great Roman-themed games from Walt Mulder.
Fans of Lindsey Davis will be glad to hear that the first book in her Falco spin-off series, entitled Ides of April, has recently been published in the US. Pick it up at your local bookseller!
Turns out Pluto isn’t the only one with new friends! Neptune has a new moon, too, and there will be a vote for its name soon. Check out NPR for more info.
