Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Language
NECTFL’s next conference (March 2014) is in Boston! For several years now, Latin scholars and teachers have been increasing the number of sessions relevant to our discipline, and we’d love for that trend to continue. Interested in presenting there? The deadline is August 15th! Click here for more information about how to submit a proposal.
SALVETE! LATIN ENRICHMENT FOR GRADES 5-8 THIS FALL!
Introducing a unique class and introduction to the Latin language and the culture of the ancient Romans, designed specially for students in grades 5-8 and beginning this fall! Presented by engaging, creative instructors from the local nonprofit organization Ascanius: The Youth Classics Institute, Salvete is a unique opportunity for students to get a head start on Latin for when they get to middle school / high school, or provide an opportunity for students to study Latin in the case that their regular school does not offer it. The class will be the rough equivalent of half of a typical high school Latin I course, giving students a strong foundation in reading Latin and expanding their English vocabulary through Latin word study. Each lesson will feature a variety of high-interest, age-appropriate activities, and a small class size of no more than 15 students will lead to individual attention for each student and effective communication about student progress.
Salvete will meet on twelve Thursday afternoons, 4:00 – 6:00 PM, beginning on October 3 and concluding on January 9. Held at Temple Emeth (194 Grove Street, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467), convenient to both the Brookline and West Roxbury communities. Cost is $345 per student if registered by 8/30, otherwise $395 per student if registered by 9/20. Register early as the class is expected to fill quickly.
